When the medieval wooden church at Södra Råda burned to the ground, Riksantikvarieämbetet gave us the task to recreate the church digitally.
The church at Södra Råda was built over 700 years ago and some of the paintings on the walls dated from 1323. But on the 12th of November 2001, the unthinkable happened. Södra Råda was on fire. Firefighters arrived within minutes of the alarm, but it was too late and the church burned to the ground.
Riksantikvarieämbetet (The Swedish National Heritage Board) contacted us with the idea of recreating the old church, but in digital form. We used old pictures and drawings to reconstruct the church and all its wall paintings with 3D technology, and then combined them into a presentation tool. Visitors to the old church site can now see how the church once looked and learn about its history through the presentations.
